Star Fox brings the iconic space-faring action of the Star Fox series to Nintendo Switch 2 with a complete visual overhaul, newly voiced dialogue and an orchestral soundtrack. Players take control of Fox McCloud and the Star Fox team as they defend the Lylat System from the forces of the evil scientist Dr. Andross. The game is based on the classic Star Fox 64 story while presenting its campaign with enhanced visuals, new cinematic elements and additional gameplay features. Players pilot the Arwing through fast-paced missions across planets, space environments and other locations, using lasers, homing attacks, bombs, boosts and evasive manoeuvres such as barrel rolls. The game supports both classic third-person gameplay and a first-person cockpit perspective, while Joy-Con 2 mouse controls can be used for aiming in supported modes. The campaign includes multiple difficulty options, replayable missions and branching routes that can change depending on completed objectives. Players can also team up in campaign and challenge modes, including local co-op where two players can share piloting and gunner responsibilities. Battle Mode provides competitive multiplayer, including online team battles and local split-screen gameplay. The September 29, 2026 update added three additional Battle Mode stages and expanded local split-screen battles to up to four players on one Nintendo Switch 2 system. The game also supports GameShare, online play, Save Data Cloud and compatible amiibo features. The physical edition is designed exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 and supports TV, tabletop and handheld play modes.
